This is a “don’t-miss” event of the year each Father’s Day Weekend. On Friday young girls vie for the coveted title of guppy, princess, Little Miss and queen in one of the largest festival pageants in the county. Dozens of animals walk in the annual pet parade. Kids games take place at the gazebo.
Friday kicks off at noon as the Midway opens with lots of delicious foods and spectacular craft vendors. Live entertainment nightly on the Main Stage. Fox 8’s own Dick Goddard will be on hand to start the Pet Parade on the Main Stage at 12:30 pm. The Princess Pageant begins at 2:30 pm with the Opening Ceremonies following about 6:00 pm. The Queens Pageant begins at 6:30 pm. On Saturday the day kicks off with a 5 K run and 1 – mile walk sponsored by the YMCA and a Sand Castle Contest at Main Street Beach.
The Crazy Craft Races take place at 1 pm on the Vermilion River. The event is open to all, so all you need is some imagination to build whatever kind of vessel inspires you. The Annual Father’s Day Parade steps off at 12:30 pm on Sunday. Don’t miss the wet and wild Firefighters Water Fight immediately following the parade. Fireworks River Closure information
On June 17th 2016 the Festival of the Fish Committee will be hosting fireworks on the detached break wall at the entrance to the Vermilion River. Due to the safety of this event we are asking spectators and boaters to take a look at the map of the area and please be aware of our safety zones that will be set in place.
The west entrance to the Vermilion River will not be accessible once the fireworks are placed on the break wall. We are asking that boaters use the east entrance to navigate both in and out of the Vermilion River.
There will be complete river closure starting at 9:30pm until 11:00pm or later. The fireworks display is set to begin at 10:00pm. There will be five to six temporary buoys set up 500’ around the detached break wall and boaters are permitted to watch the fireworks show on the north side of these buoys. Both attached piers the one by Main Street Beach and the other by Lagoon Beach will be off limit to spectators.
There will be no parking from Huron Street to Main Street Beach except for emergency vehicles only. This area will be blocked off for Thursday, June 16th at midnight until fireworks display is over estimated at 11:00pm on Friday, June 17th. Police will enforce this by towing your vehicle at owner’s expense. Fireworks will be visible from the lake outside the safety zone (see map), Main Street Beach and Festival area.
